During October 2021, a seminar organized by KSDEO EDRA took place in Athens, in the framework of the European project “Zero Coercion”. The seminar started with the introduction of Maria Kerasoglou (President of the Board – KSDEO EDRA), regarding the goals of the project and some interesting points about the people with schizophrenia in Greece. Then, Michalis Skaltsas (Psychologist – Researcher) did a detailed presentation of the project, the actions and the goals that have been achieved through “Zero Coercion”. Afterwards, Alexandros Oikonomou (Psychologist, Chief Scientific Officer EDRA, President of the European Network “ENALMH” – European Network of Active Living for Mental Health), talked about the First aid in dealing with psychiatric and mainly schizophrenia cases in domiciliary environments. Finally, Maria Psichountaki (Professor of Sports Psychology, School of Physical Education and Sports Science, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) analyses the importance of physical exercise and sports in mental health and in dealing with schizophrenia crises. The event was completed with the conclusions and the questions of the attendants.
Τhe program was considered particularly informative and explanatory both in terms of project structure as well as in terms of management and at the level of first aid. Some participants noted that many caregivers or relatives, may not know how to give first aid in schizophrenia crisis situations and this could be included in the goals of a future agenda.
